Exceptional bow-front curio China cabinet from the late 19th century. The wood is immaculate and appears to be oak. The glass on the right side will need to be repaired and we’ve priced it accordingly.
The cabinet is from the Empire period:
“The American Empire style emerged from around 1820, and was a French-inspired neoclassical style influencing furniture-making, architecture, and other decorative arts. The movement began very focused around notable cabinet makers in New York, expanding out to Boston, Philadelphia and Baltimore. Characteristics of the style include classical carvings, gilt-brass mounting, and decorative inlays in patterns such as egg-and-dart, diamond and Greek-inspired patterns. An iconic example of the American Empire style is the Red Room at the White House.”
